Tokio Marine Europe

We worked with Tokio Marine Europe Insurance to design and implement their corporate intranet. Tokio Marine had no Intranet in place and the majority of corporate information was stored in Outlook public folders or various shared network drives making it difficult to find.  They wanted to develop an Intranet to improve communication, access to information, and also to promote a sense of corporate identity across the European group.

Tokio Marine has already experimented with SharePoint in some departments and chose Microsoft SharePoint Portal Services (SPS) 2003 for their intranet platform. The use of the SPS platform enabled the project to be implemented quickly and efficiently by using ‘out of the box’ functionality, whilst providing a flexible base for future developments.

We met with key target users of the Intranet to understand their requirements. This led to the creation of an Intranet-wide core Information Architecture, defining the locations of key brand, navigational and content areas. Custom HTML and JavaScript elements were developed to control the appearance and layout of content-editable regions of the Intranet. The user interface was designed to reflect the existing Tokio Marine brand guidelines and a library of stock imagery was created for use throughout the site.

Once development was complete, Business & Decision worked closely with Tokio Marine to deploy and configure the Intranet at their London offices. This included integration with the Tokio Marine domain, Exchange 2003 server and Active Directory user profiles for authentication.

The relevant areas, sub sites, document libraries and lists were then set up to provide a framework for the Intranet content. Finally Business & Decision held several training workshops with Tokio Marine staff to ensure that they were comfortable using the Intranet and able create their own content.

Benefits realised:

  • An improved sense of corporate identity
  • Better internal communication and access to information
